What’s Your Question? for Aug. 27 Should we argue about religion? The first definition of argue is "give reasons for or against…" (Webster). One of the shrewdest doctrines Satan ever fostered on man is that we should not discuss religious differences. Some think that you do not have the mind of Christ, if you give reasons for what you believe. The fact is Christ was the world’s greatest controversialist. He debated the devil himself (Mt. 4:1-11). He was often in conflict with Pharisees over their traditions (Mt. 15:1-12) and with Sadducees, who denied angels and believed the soul dies with the body (Acts 23:6-8; Mt. 22:23-33). True disciples of Christ should be ready to give Bible answers for what they believe (1 Pet. 3:15; 1 Thess. 5:21). Satan knows that if one believes something wrong and that he should not discuss it, he will likely remain in his error.
