What’s Your Question? for Sept. 10 Is salvation by faith only? The Bible teaches that salvation is by faith (Eph. 2:8), but not by faith only (Jas. 2:26). It teaches that we must repent (Lk. 13:3), but it does not teach repentance only will keep us from perishing (Acts 2:38). It teaches that baptism saves (1 Pet. 3:21), but not baptism only (Mk. 16:16). Sometimes the word believe is used in the comprehensive sense to refer to obedient believers. "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life…" (Jn. 3:36 NASV). The believers who were added to the Lord (Acts 5:14), were those who obeyed what the apostles taught (Acts 2:38,41,47). King Agrippa believed, but was not a Christian (Acts 26:27,28). It is only by faith that we can be saved, but it is not by faith only!
