What’s Your Question? for Jan. 26, 2011 Does silence give consent? Often, people try to justify their practices by appealing to the silence of God. The writer of Hebrews asked “to which of the angels did He ever say: You are My Son, Today I have begotten you?” (Heb. 1:5). The implied answer is – none! “But to the Son He says: Your throne, O God, is forever and ever” (v. 8). Therefore Jesus was not an angel, but God! The same writer said Moses wrote nothing about priests from the tribe of Judah (Heb. 7:14). Priests were from the tribe of Levi, therefore “if He (Christ) were on earth, He would not be a priest” (Heb. 8:4). We learn God’s will by what He said, not by silence. His word furnishes us completely to every good work (2 Tim. 3:16,17). If it is not in the Book, it is not good! |
